I have already floated some ideas on what form such lawful countermeasures could hypothetically take in the comments to a post by Sahib Singh over at EJIL:Talk! In those comments, I concluded that closing the Strait of Hormuz completely, which Iranian officials have at times mentioned doing in response to cyber attacks including Stuxnet, and to the killing of their civilian nuclear scientists, would not satisfy, inter alia, the relevance and proportionality requirements in response to these unlawful acts against Iran, so as to fit under the law of countermeasures in the ARSIWA. I would add, though, that the fact of its illegality under Article 2(4) WOULD however trigger Iran’s right to engage in lawful countermeasures, as defined in the law on state responsibility, best represented in the ILC’s Draft Articles on State Responsibility, Articles 49-53 (ARSIWA). Overall, I would probably agree with the assessment Schmitt makes here, that Stuxnet was illegal as a use of force prohibited by Article 2(4), but that it did not meet the criteria for an armed attack, which would have given rise to the right of unilateral self defense on the part of Iran. I personally think that there is a difference in intensity evidenced in the applicable legal sources, so that finding that an act meets the test for a use of force, but does not meet the test for an armed attack, as Schmitt does here, is certainly plausible. There’s always been interesting debates among international legal scholars over whether and to what extent the criteria for use of force under Article 2(4) and the criteria for armed attack under Article 51 differ. Charter, which says that the right of unilateral self defense can only be exercised as against the authors of an armed attack. But then he goes on to conclude that Stuxnet did not rise to the level of an “armed attack.” This is in reference to Article 51 of the U.N. and Israel in violation of Article 2(4) of the U.N. What I interpret him to be saying here is that Stuxnet was an international act of force that caused enough damage to constitute a use of force against Iran by the U.S. But they were divided on whether its effects were severe enough to constitute an “armed attack,” he said. Schmitt, professor of international law at the U.S. The international group of researchers who wrote the manual were unanimous that Stuxnet - the self-replicating cyberweapon that destroyed Iranian centrifuges that were enriching uranium - was an act of force, said Mr. The lead author, Michael Schmitt, is quoted/cited as saying the following: It cites to the conclusions of the authors of the new Tallinn Manual on the International Law Applicable to Cyber Warfare. I just saw this story in the Washington Times. Whammer Jammer was the GR20 recorded direct to the sounds great that way.Stuxnet an “Act of Force” Against Iran Posted: Ma| Author: Dan Joyner | Filed under: Nuclear | 30 Comments This was recorded with a room mic so you hear the natural string sound mixed with the synth. Here’s the GR 20’s alto sax sound I used for David Sanborn’s parts in Bowie’s Young American. My next project is playing the accordion parts for Beer Barrel Polka! Funny yeah, but I’m serious haha. I haven’t tried the GR 30 or the 33 yet but I suggest looking through used gear sites and finding a GR 20 for dirt cheap, you’ll love it. The sounds have a lot of effects on them and when you remove the effects it screws the original sound up. The sounds are more on the guitar amp modeling side rather than other instruments and the other instruments they include sound really cheesy, no where near as good as the GR 20. I upgraded to a GR 55 and ended up returning it. Some info on the synth, the one I used is a GR 20, the sounds are pretty darn good. Thanks man, I’m still grinning with how it turned out From 1925, it hosted early footballing duals between two adjacent municipalities, Castellammare Adriatico and Pescara. Despite the recent addition of solar-paneled canopies, the outline of the original curva can still be seen from aerial views.Ĭuriously, the riverside Campo Rampigna may be considered older than the city of Pescara itself. The Stadio Viale Brin fell into disrepair and the site was eventually turned over for use as an employee car park for the steelworks. In 1965, Ternana moved 3km across town to the modern and (needlessly) three-tiered Stadio Libero Liberati. It was known locally as La Pista (The Track) the pitch was surrounded by a concrete velodrome that provided the training ground for 1948 Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Renato Perona. The stadium was incrementally expanded through the ages, eventually holding 10,000 people just prior to its decommissioning. It was fitting therefore that, from 1925, Ternana played their football at a stadium built in the shadow of one of the vast mills. Stadio Viale Brin was a small, but perfectly formed venue, equipped with a neat English-style grandstand. The hot and dirty work of steel-making has provided jobs and income to sustain generations of Terni families. For better or worse, it’s a place defined by its industrial heritage. Part two takes us into the central regions of Marche, Abruzzo and Umbria… The first part of our journey around Italy saw us visiting the relics of south. Nature has silently reclaimed some, others have struggled on in a dilapidated state, whilst a few have received a new lease of life. Across the provinces, countless historic former homes stand as memorials to the triumph and emotion of yesteryear. With most stadia in municipal ownership and fulfilling a broader set of sporting needs, there is rarely such an imperative for scrapping the old venues. It is perhaps unsurprising to hear that things work a little differently in Italy. However, as the shine begins to wear off the new venue, it’s not uncommon to hear fans become nostalgic for the imperfections of the old place, yearning for just one more visit. Finance dictates that stands must be razed and a century of memories deleted, all in the name of progress. In the UK, the unveiling of a new football stadium almost always implies the demise of its predecessor. But is it aftermarket or OEM spec? Will it last for two years or longer? You can see from the service record that it has had a coolant service within the last two years. On the issue of topping up your cooling system, Bruce advises: “Say you buy a second-hand car and it has pink coolant in it. Get it wrong, and it could cause a blockage that will wreck the cooling system and lead to significant repair bills. Because coolants are no longer classified by colour, it’s impossible to tell if two products will mix safely within the system. But what about topping up the system when there’s coolant in the tank? Do you need to use a coolant of the same colour? If you need to refill your car’s cooling system, you should always check the manual first to find out which type of product is recommended by the manufacturer. Similarly, if you buy a second-hand car, the colour of the coolant gives you no idea as to when it needs to be changed.” Do I Need to Use a Certain Colour of Coolant in My Car? “That’s why it’s so confusing – you can open up the bonnet of a new car and have no idea what the coolant is based on. “These days, there’s no real reason for a coolant manufacturer to use a certain colour, so it’s not easy for you to know what chemicals are in the coolant just by seeing whether it’s blue, green, yellow or orange. They could be a blend of IAT and OAT chemicals, and were therefore named ‘Hybrids’. These ‘Extended Life Coolants’ (ELC), were usually orange in colour and offered a five-year or 100,000-mile change interval. “Next came Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolants, whose chemical make-up offered better protection for cooling systems, and extended the life of the coolant. With these types of coolants, you’d normally have to change them every two years, or every 60,000 miles. “Older coolants that used Inorganic Additive Technology (IAT) were usually blue or green in colour. As our expert, Bruce Ellis, explains: “In days gone by, the colour of coolant was determined by the type of chemicals used to prevent corrosion - meaning you could tell a lot about the type of coolant used by its colour. As such, great care should be taken when topping up your car’s cooling system. Unfortunately, it’s no longer possible to determine a specific type of coolant from its colour alone, as the shade has little bearing on the chemical make-up of the product. Vehicle fluids vary in colour from bright pink to reddish-brown, so if you ever need help identifying which is which, take a look at our car fluid finder chart.Īs for coolant/antifreeze, there are a couple of key differences as to why some products are one colour and others are another. Why is Coolant/Antifreeze Different Colours? Which Coolant/Antifreeze Should I Use in My Car?.What Do Coolant/Antifreeze Colours Mean?.Why is Coolant/Antifreeze Different Colours?.We also look at some of the advantages of using high-performance coolant/antifreeze, so you can make a more informed decision on the product that’s right for you. However, it’s important to make sure you’re putting the right fluid in your car, so here we’ll give you some insight into the differences. There are historical reasons why it comes in different colours, but these days it doesn’t necessarily tell you all that much. The colour of engine coolant isn’t there to make it look pretty. If so, you might be wondering which you should use if you need to top up? Have you ever wondered how pink, orange, blue and green engine coolants differ from each other? Perhaps you’ve bought a car, checked the coolant/antifreeze reservoir for the first time and noticed it’s different from your last car. The process includes students and parents/caregivers signing a user agreement indicating that the school’s BYOD Guidelines and Cyber Safety Agreements have been read and understood. Uptake of BYOD has steadily increased with many students valuing the opportunity to have access to a device ‘anytime anyplace’ so that they can access the increasing amount of curriculum that is now delivered by electronic means. Over the past few years we have been encouraging students to bring their own devices to school when it became obvious that we, like most other schools (public and private), would not be in the financial position to replace the federal government supplied laptops when they reached ‘end of life’. These skills are embedded throughout the Australian Curriculum and are important for success in our modern world. The goal of moving to BYOD is to ensure that all students have equal opportunity to develop ICT capabilities and digital literacies. Any student is able to bring their own device on completion of relevant paperwork, available from the front office. Year 9 students in 2022 are strongly recommended to bring their own device – it will be an expectation from 2023 that all Year 9 students do so. It will therefore be an expectation that all Year 10 students in 2021 will also make arrangements to have a device for school use in 2021. Following the successful introduction of BYOD to all Year 11 and 12 students the ICT Committee has decided to extend this opportunity to all Year 10 students.
